Are mobile apps worth investing in?

By Alinga

We all know people spend lots of time on their phones and not all that time is spent messaging friends and family. If your brand/business is curating content in a fun way that provides entertainment and or value to their customers, they will also be interacting with you.

A mobile app is not a cheap investment if all you want to make is a flashy, entertainment app. If you want to create something more meaningful for your brand and your customers, you can get an app for a few hundred dollars, one you have a specific goal in mind.

Here is some criteria to decide if a Gold Coast mobile app is right for your brick and mortar business.

Your Customers Are Daily Customers

A perfect example of this are coffee shops and bakeries where the same people pop in at the same time every day. They hand over their cardboard cutout loyalty card (if they havent lost it), and eventually get a free coffee.

To make this easier on you long-term, make this cardboard cut out an application instead with basic mobile app technology. By storing the loyalty card on their phone, customers have immediate access. Your customers will probably have it in their hand at the time anyway, so it is a lot more convenient for them.

The Lifetime Value Of Your Customers Is High

Good examples of this are shoe shops, mechanic shops, and high end restaurants. Your customers are not going to come in to make purchases everyday and the chance of them going to another competitor who has a sale on at the right time is possible.

With an app you can keep them engaged, run competitions, send them promotions via notifications and simply be a daily presence. Dont be a pest and tell them stuff every hour of the day, just subtle reminders you exist are sufficient.

You Are A Chain Working Off Impulse Purchases

Restaurants are common places that can utilise the national/international brand to their advantage. Creating an app that sends notifications to all people within X metres of their stores with a special promotion can entice customers to come in to the store at times they normally wouldnt consider, just so they dont miss out on the limited time offer.

You Are Prominent On All Social Media

You are a content machine with a blog, posting photos all over Facebook, tweeting outlinks to useful information and creating exciting videos on YouTube.

By having a central place outside of your website, this enables customers to get easier access to you and your brand. Rather than open the internet browser on their phone, type in your website and fumble around, with an app, they can simply open it up and begin interacting with your business.

Nearly all brick and mortar businesses are going to fit into one of these categories. Ultimately apps can be applied in so many different contexts that with a little bit of creativity, investing in an app can reap customer loyalty that is hard to put a dollar value on.

If you are not sure how you can fully utilise a mobile app for Gold Coast users, give Alinga a call today, we will be happy to talk through possible ideas.
